Dame Sarah Storey took the win at the penultimate Matrix GP series round, a collective effort putting Pearl Izumi Sports Tours International into the team lead.
Attacks began from the gun, but Joanna Rowsell and Dame Sarah bridged to a small breakaway, where team mate Katie Curtis was already in the lead group.
Rowsell went for an early attack, which won her the Combativity Award on the night. This set Dame Sarah up for her own victory seeking solo breakaway, with just under five laps to go.
Team mates Gabby Shaw and Clem Clopie worked to keep the peloton back and their combined efforts put Pearl Izumi 16 points ahead of previous leaders, Team Giordana Triton.
The win comes after a disappointing round three in Croydon for Dame Sarah, who was brought to an abrupt standstill when a spectator and her son tried to cross the course as the peloton approached.
The bunch sprint decided second and third, which went to Eileen Roe (Wiggle Honda) and series individual and sprint leader, Nikki Juniper (Giordana Triton) respectively.
Juniper is well ahead in the team standings, with 74 points, whilst Carline Joiner (Team WNT) and Jessie Walker (RST Racing) are tied for second and third at 51 points.
The final round takes place in Bath tomorrow, on Thursday 11 June – we’ll let you know how it all pans out!
