Back for its second year running, the Yorkshire Lass Cycling Club is hosting another spectacular sportive event this summer. With over 380 women already entered, the event still has spaces to make this one of the biggest turn-outs yet.

Last year’s inaugural ladies-only event saw 300 cyclists taking part and succeeded in raising over £14,500 for women’s cancer charities. For 2017, the sportive will start from Carlton Lodge Activity centre in Thirsk, offering a range of three rides to suit different abilities:
- 30 miles is the “Cuppa tea an’ a piece a cake” ride
- 60 miles is the “Reet Gud Ride” ride
- 103 miles is the “By Eck Tha War Ard Ride”
The event is being held in aid of Women v Cancer which comprises Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer and Ovarian Cancer Action, and will also raise funds for Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Carlton Lodge Activity Centre Bursary Fund who are hosting the event. The event is being organised through British Cycling and all riders will be rewarded for their efforts with a medal, a piece of cake and that all-important cup of Yorkshire tea!
How to approach your first sportive event
The lunch stop will be made at the Mousey Thompson shop and café for the participants doing the 60-mile and 100-mile routes. The ride will be well signposted with marshalls along the route, mechanical assistance will be provided by All Terrain Cycles and there will be well-stocked feed stations to keep you going.
The do’s and don’t’s of sportive riding
The charity sportive event takes place on Sunday, August 20th with registrations open until August 1st, 2017. For more information about the cycling club, head over to their website here. To take part in the event itself, you can register via British Cycling here.
