Whether you’re an experienced rider, or fairly new to the world of trails, dirt and descents, dialling in on those essential MTB skills will keep you flowing from top to bottom. It can be difficult to practice bunny hopping mid-trail ride, so many local bike parks and trail centres are developing dedicated MTB skills areas.
Ask the expert: 4 Essential MTB skills
The latest development is in West Wales, near Aberystwyth, at Nant yr Arian. A popular ride destination for mountain bikers and walkers, the natural techy trails provides enough of a challenge, and plenty of fun for an awesome day out.
The new MTB skills park has been carefully designed and located to not disrupt the stunning natural views. It will allow riders to session some table-tops, berms and rollers before hitting the trails. The skills area will have a number of routes, varying in difficulty from Green to Red, and it will challenge you with common features you’d come across on a ride.
The park is set to be completed just before Christmas, providing the weather behaves itself.
Skills areas are important for mountain bikers to progress on, without attempting new features and stunts mid-trail. They are great for having a quick blast around when you don’t have time for those longer trail rides too. If you’re looking for new MTB destinations, check out our guides here.
