10 Easter Bike Rides Around the UK for 2016

Need to work off those Easter Egg calories? We've rounded up a ride for every type of rider...

Easter weekend is fast approaching, and with it comes a long weekend and deliciously tempting chocolatey eggs.

It’s great to have the long bank holiday weekends whether you intend to spend them with your family, or your two wheels. If you’re like us, and partial to a sneaky egg or two, then maybe an off-setting calorie ride is in order.

With the brilliantly established Breeze network, and local cycling associations promoting women’s riding, we’ve been spoilt for choice this year with Easter rides and sportives.

Here’s 10 for you to get rolling with this weekend.

Wheels for Wellbeing Easter Bunny Ride

When: Friday March 25th 2016

Where: Greenwich Park

This cycling event is jointly ran between the Breeze network and Ride Social Ride to help raise funds for all Wheels for Wellbeing. This organization aims to support and encourage cycling for all abilities.

This Easter fun ride is 18 miles along cyclepaths which will take you through some of London’s finer tourist sights and along the Thames.

It’s available to everyone of all ages and abilities, and most bikes will be suitable for the type of riding, although a hybrid is recommended

Giant York – Women’s only Easter Ride

When: Saturday March 26th 2016

Where: York

Lead by Breeze Champion, Nicola Doody, the Giant York Easter ride is perfect for beginner women looking to get stuck into road cycling.

The 25 mile route will be ridden at roughly 13 mph which is leisurely enough to enjoy, but active enough to stay warm too. Rides such as these are great way to meet fellow female riders and get yourself some miles for the weekend.

Easter Weekend Eggstra-Hilly

When: Saturday March 26th 2016

Where: Basingstoke

The Eggstra-Hilly ride is certainly a climbers dream, and not recommended for beginner level riders.

This 38 mile route takes on Hannington Hill , White Hill to Kingsclere, and a 10% hill at Ashford hill. So if you’re looking to power those legs, practise your climbing skills and make some friends, then this ride is certainly for you,

Roaring Reds Easter Saturday

When: Saturday March 26th 2016

Where: St Albans

Setting off at 09:00 from The Beech House on Easter Saturday, this 50 mile cycle will certainly help burn off those Easter Egg calories.

Rollercoaster hills with over 800m of climbing, and flowly descending routes, this ride will have it all for a refreshing and enjoyable Easter weekend ride.

Herne Hill Holiday Club

When: March 29th – April 8th

Where: Herne Hill Cycle Track

Herne Hill do a brilliant kid’s club for the school holidays where kids can cycle until their heart’s content, learning new skills and gaining plenty of confidence on two wheels.

Available to children of all abilities, from ages 8 – 16, you can enrol your child at this club where they will be able to choose from track and off-road riding.

It’s £15 per child per day, and that includes bike hire and helmet with camp days from 10:00 – 15:00.

Scunthorpe Easter Bank Holiday Breeze

When: Monday March 28th 2016

Where: Scunthorpe

Stretch those legs with this 29 mile loop ride on Bank Holiday Monday. Great for those looking to clock up those miles, and get some summer practise on the go.

Setting off from Riddings Pool, the ride will follow the River Trent to Sunsworth, and then into Laughton Woods. After a climb up into Blyton, you’ll have time for a pit stop and refuel at a local cafe before setting off again towards Northorpe and looping back to the starting point.

Hunting Easter Cakes

When: Sunday March 27th 2016

Where: Waltham

A 30 mile ride is just what you need to get the blood pumping. Upon cycling out of Waltham and along the flat coastal road, the route will take you through the lovely Tetney, Fulstow and Covenham because beginning the first climb at Fotherby.

This long undulating hill will soon fall away as you head down through North Ormsby before heading to the second big climb. Finishing the ride at the Wold Newton tea room for some much needed tea and cake.

Easter Monday Ride

When: Monday March 29th 2016

Where: Basingstoke

A 30 mile loop of the South M3 will be the perfect training session for those summer sportives on the horizon.

Setting off out of Eastrop park, the ride will head East towards Old Basing where a pit stop will be made for rest and refuel. Setting off South towards Upton Grey, Weston Patrick and Southrope, before leading back to Basingstoke through Ellis field.

Easter Holiday Ride for Mum’s and Children

When: Wednesday March 30th 2016

Where: Powys

Something for the half term holidays with a mum’s and children’s ride in Powys. A gentle 8 mile cycle along towpaths and cycle routes is a great way to get out of the house with the little ones and explore some country side.

The Easter Epic

When: Sunday March 27th 2016

Where: West Midlands

Price: £20

If you really need to offset the Easter treats this year, and give yourself a feat to be proud of, then try out the Easter Epic. With two challenging routes to choose from: 133km and 82km, this is not for the faint hearted.

With fully stoked feed stations along the way, this event will have you climbing and descending throughout the West Midlands.

If you’re looking for a social ride, meet some new faces and get those muscles working, then there is plenty going on this Easter for you to indulge yourself in.

Alternatively, why not organise your own Easter ride with some friends and the family. Create your own cycling Easter Egg hunt, or fancy dress ride to involve as many people as possible.
