60 Seconds With Laura Trott

Maltesers, Bruce Springsteen and pre-race rituals, find out what makes Laura tick

We were lucky enough to grab 60 seconds with double Olympic champion and star of the Wiggle Honda team, Laura Trott. And we are delighted to report that aside from her ridiculous amount of talent, she is really just like the rest of us!

What is your first memory on a bike?

I learned how to learn a bike with my dad and my sister. The first time I had actually learned how to ride a bike – funny story – my Dad pushed me off this one time. I hear my sister scream so I go veering off into this bush. My sister had broken her leg. We didn’t have the car, we did live quite close to the park though. So my Dad has my sister sitting on his handlebars as he pushes her bike, stopping every 10 metres to push me. By the time I got home, I had learned how to ride.

And to make it worse my mum was telling my sister to walk, she said she would be fine. They finally took her to the hospital and she had a really bad break.

If you weren’t a pro cyclist, what do you think you’d be doing?

I’d be a doggy border

Do you have any strange or surprising pre-race rituals?

Oh yeh, I step on a wet towel in a clean pair of socks before a race.

Do you have any hidden talents?

Well apparently yes, I can change a tyre in 3 mins 44 seconds.

What is your favourite movie?

Big.

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

Yes, I am totally obsessed with Maltesers. Everyday for three weeks before the Olympics I had a share bag of Maltesers.

What is your favourite song?

No Surrender by Bruce Springsteen

If you could go for a cup of tea with anyone in the world, who would it be?

My boyfriend, that’s good eh?!

What is your favourite colour?

Pink

Aside from the obvious cycling achievements, what is your proudest moment?

I don’t really do anything, I dunno, winning the jump contest here (at the Wiggle Honda training camp).
