We’re finding more and more ways to reuse, re-purpose and recycle our belongings which is what Bev Blakeman, owner of Velo Culture has built her business upon. Velo Culture produces recycled jewellery and accessories made from old bike parts, ensuring every part of our beloved bike gets put to good use and goes to a new home.
If you’re looking for a customised gift for a loved one or a funky and unique piece of jewellery, then these authentic items are perfect for the cycling enthusiast in your life or maybe even as a treat to yourself!
From necklaces, belts and purses to cufflinks and phone holders, Velo Culture is bringing bikes into all aspects of life and sprucing up our everyday belongings. With the products being primarily constructed from inner tubes, worn out tyres and cable off cuts, they’re a great alternative to leather!
Bev, an avid cyclist, has mingled in all aspects of the cycling industry. Starting off in competitive track cycling and adventure racing, she’s also been able to tick managing a bike store and cycle café off the to do list. It’s safe to say she knows a lot about the bike business.
Having previously made pieces of jewellery for friends on the odd occasion, she had the brainwave to take the brave leap in becoming self-employed and launched Velo Culture towards the end of last year. With a lot of encouragement and support from her friends and family she made her very first piece for Velo Culture, a pair of recycled cable earrings, and from there the business was up and running.
“It’s still early days for the brand and I’m still bursting with new ideas. It’s been hard work but I love all aspects of it, from developing new items, making custom pieces, marketing and social media. I’ve posted items from the UK to USA and France to Finland and love that people are wearing something I’ve made from a recycled part which has once been part of the sport that they love”
