8 Festive Rides Around the UK

Join in the fa-la-la-la-la festivities with one of these bike rides

While many of us are frantically buying gifts, preparing the house for the arrival of guests and family from afar, it’s easy to forget about your two wheeled companion. Luckily we’ve found some brilliantly festive bike rides to keep you active and feeling Christmasy.

WCR Santa Ride to Claire House

When: Sunday December 11th at 09:00

Where: Nets Cafe, Denhall Lane, Neston, CH64 0TG

Ride Distance: 15 miles

The Wirral Coast Riders club are hosting a 15 mile Christmas ride from Neston to the Claire House Children’s Hospice.

Decorate your bike and dress up to deliver some Christmas cheer and treats for the children at Claire House. You’ll be joined by Santa and his helpers to hand out sackfuls of selection boxes and goodies, whilst you can grab yourself a lovely brew before heading back.

Gift donations aren’t required. All you need to bring is yourself, your bike and some festive joy. For more information and to sign up, head to the website here.

This Girl Can Festive Bike Ride

When: Thursday December 15th at 17:30

Where: The Cycle Hub, NE6 1BU

Ride Distance: 10 miles

This after work festive ride is one is for the ladies. Get dressed up in your favourite festive outfit, line your bike with tinsel and joy and pedal it out with the women of This Girl Can.

You’ll ride along the Quayside before finishing up with a hot brew at The Cycle Hub afterwards to warm us all up. More information and sign up can be found here.

Jingle Bells Ride

When: Friday December 16th at 09:30

Where: Liverpool Pier Head, L3 1BW

Ride Distance: 20 miles

Get festive and merry on this women’s only ride through Liverpool.

Starting off at the Mersey Ferry offices, the route may vary owing to weather and wind conditions. Although there will be cake and coffee en-route to get your pre-Christmas warm up fix.

Christmas Fancy Dress Charity Cross

When: Sunday December 18th

Where: Heptonstall Bowls and Social Club, Heptonstall, Hebden Bridge, HX7 7LT

What: Cyclo-cross for all ages and skill levels

Shake things up a little this Christmas and get down and dirty with some cyclo-cross fun.

It’s the perfect chance to try it out while getting dress up in festive wear and raising money for charity.

Doncaster BMX Santa Christmas Race

When: Sunday December 18th at 09:00

Where: Doncaster – Balby Carr, Weston Road, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, DN4 8ND

What: You can be a racer or a spectator

All riders of all abilities and ages are welcome down to the BMX Santa Christmas race in Doncaster.

Get involved, or go to watch the day’s events. Either way you can get dressed up and join in with the festivities. More information can be found here.

Liv for Christmas Eve with Breeze (Fancy Dress Ride)

When: Saturday December 24th at 10:00

Where: Car Park at Rear of Giant Sheffield Store, Queens Road, S2 4DU

Ride Distance: 15 miles

Join this women’s only ride through this 15 mile loop of South Sheffield and Derbyshire on Christmas Eve. De-stress the mind and body as you pedal it away with a group of cycle loving women.

While fancy dress is encouraged, it’s not mandatory. A little tinsel on your bars and some elf like socks can still go a long way to spread festive cheer. More information and sign up details can be found here.

Southwark Cyclists’ Christmas Day Ride

When: Sunday December 25th at 10:00

Where: Cutty Sark Gardens, London SE10 9HT

Ride Distance: 10 miles

What began as a Christmas Day ride in 2001 has grown into an unmissable annual cycling event hosted by Southwark Cyclists.

Over the past few years, cyclists from all over have turned up in their hundreds to cycle the 10 mile Christmas route. You’ll pedal past some famous spots through London, and if you have the time to spare, stay for a spot of lunch with the group as they settle for some Lebanese cuisine – as it’s the only thing open on Christmas day!

Dressing up is encouraged, but remember to dress warm, bring tools, spares and of course, festive joy.

Winter Wonders

When: Sunday December 25th at 10:00

Where: The Portland Centre – Parking and amenities close at hand  NG2 2HE

Ride Distance: 35 miles

Leave the Christmas cooking to someone else this year as you head off with the ladies for a brisk ride around Nottingham.

The route will be between 30 and 40 miles with café stop, to suit all riders. The final route choice will be chosen nearer to the time, so you can have a head wind on the way out, and a tail wind on the way back. More information and ride entry can be found here.
