The Best Padded Cycling Underwear for Women

Cushioning your bottom for a better ride

What we wear on our bottoms is the most important element to cycling clothing. Spending long stints in the saddle can take its toll on us ladies, so ensuring we have the right underwear is key.

How to treat saddle sores

We’ve searched far and wide to bring you the best padded cycling underwear to cushion your bottom however bumpy the ride. They’re all perfect for commuting and short distance rides, giving you the chance to comfortably ride in your favourite skirt, trousers or shorts!

Club Ride Apparel: Jewel

The Jewel pedal-proof pantie from Club Ride Apparel is a winner in our eyes. Besides from looking the absolute part, they’ve got some pretty cool features too.

Fitting comfortably around the waist and legs with a soft stretchy waistband, the quick drying and breathable panties have a thin (but very comfortable) 3mm chamois that moves with you on the go.

The slim brief shape of them also means that they fit nicely under ordinary clothes. Being perfect for journeys you will be taking that are no longer than an hour, for anything more you might want to invest in a proper bib short!

Available here for $35 / £25.

Bike Nicks

If you’re looking for something a little more luxury with some everyday comfort then check out these rather elegant panties from Bike Nicks.

Reviewed: Bike Nicks cycling underwear

With a thin padded liner, a pair of these on the saddle really takes the edge off your ride and their discrete design makes them easy to wear under almost anything!

Available here from £27.

Giro: Boy Undershort

If you’re on the lookout for more of a boxer type knicker, then the Giro Boy Undershort is your best bet. Made with soft merino wool and a slim Tri-Chamois pad, they’re great for rides under an hour.

With a more relaxed and loose fit, they have a non-binding waistband for added comfort. These padded cycling underwear for women are great for wearing under skirts and baggy shorts, but we wouldn’t recommend wearing them under anything tight.

Urbanist: The Brigitte and Bettie

Now, the Brigitte and Bettie pants from Urbanist have been creating quite a storm in the world of women’s cycling apparel recently. The Brigitte panties also referred to on the site as ‘more cushion for the pushin‘, are a stylish, feminine and comfortable option for downstairs.

With a much thicker chamois pad than the Bettie and the rest of the bunch on this list, they’re still very breathable, and have been made with moisture-wicking fabric to keep you bottom sweat free! The thin lace at the top of the pant makes them comfortable to wear around the waist and prevents the dreaded digging in effect.

Available here from £35

Endura: Engineered Padded Knicker

The Endura Engineered Padded Knicker offers a tight, flattering boxer short fit for cyclists and has a very convenient price tag!

They have a super slender antibacterial pad which feels and looks unnoticeable. With fast wicking fabric, one thing that stands out is their seamless design which helps to prevent any unwanted chaffing, providing much more comfort on the bike when wearing everyday clothes.

This padded cycling underwear for women is great for cyclists who like to wear skirts and dresses but we wouldn’t recommend wearing them under jeans or leggings.

Craft: Greatness Bike Hipster

The Craft Greatness Bike Hipster pant is an ideal for leisure rides and commuting. The padded cycling underwear for women is easy to move around in on the bike, giving you less restriction with what you wear and how you feel in the saddle.

With a low rise design and a light comfortable chamois built in, the short’s material is also quite thin, meaning they’re so comfortable you almost forget you have them on!

They are the best buy for summer riding when the weather starts to get humid because of the material’s cooling and highly breathable qualities.

Available here at £35.

Terry’s: Cyclo Brief

The Cyclo Brief from Terry’s offers a high rise, boxer shorts for women looking to add a little more comfort to their commute. With a lightly padded tri-chamois built in, the short fits well under leggings and skinny jeans.

Sitting quite high up at the back, the padded cycling underwear is supportive of the body and, is very breathable. The briefs have two special mesh side panels built in to improve ventilation for a much cooler ride.

Being extremely comfortable to wear, they apply no pressure to the body and are great for short commuting distances, but for anything further, go for something with a thicker chamois!

Available here for $45 / £32.

ZIB Padded Cycling Knickers

Designed to be worn under your everyday clothes, these padded pants are not only super stylish, but they are bursting with features to keep you comfortable throughout your ride.
