We’ve all heard comments along the lines of ‘women don’t like watching sport’ and ‘women don’t care about sport’ – but Laura Trott’s mum obliterated that theory as she cheered her daughter to Gold in the Team Pursuit on Saturday night. 

GB Team Pursuit Women Make History at Rio Velodrome with World Record

Team GB have been clearing up on the track – on the women’s side we’ve already scooped up a Gold in the Team Pursuit, Silver in the Keirin for Becky James, and both sprinters – James and Katy Marchant – are now through to the next round. In progressing to the next heat, James also set a new World Record with a time of 10.721. We’ve also got Laura Trott’s Omnium performance to look forward to tonight as well as the sprint finals. It is ALL happening.

Of course, Olympic champions aren’t dropped from the sky in an inspiring cloud of glitter dust, they’re born and raised – in Trott’s case by mum Glenda and dad Adrian (@DaSistasDad). And clearly Glenda – who is part of P&G’s ‘Thank You Mum’ Olympic campaign which celebrates athletes mums and their dedication – and Adrian are behind their daughter, every pedal stroke of the way.

We loved seeing her animated faces as she saw her daughter race to a World Record, becoming the first GB woman to scoop up three Golds. She said after the dust had settled: “I felt so proud watching Laura, Jason [Trott’s fiance] and the rest of Team GB competing yesterday. We always take our Union Flag to wave in the stadium and cheer them on as loudly as we can!”
