A lot of you will already be familiar with the Blaze Laserlight. Since its conception via a kickstarter campaign in 2012, it has received rave reviews in the press and even won ‘Innovative Product of the Year’ at the recent Total Women’s Cycling awards.

But I was keen to test the product out for myself to see if it really did live up to its reputation.

On first inspection the Blaze Laserlight feels like a really premium product with a aluminium casing and a slick smooth appearance. It doesn’t look in the slight bit robust. But in actual fact I was happy to find that it is actually 100% waterproof. I had the pleasure of testing that aspect out on one particularly wet commute home.

Set up is also pretty easy. A steel bracket attaches to your handlebars. Thanks to four different sized green rubber inserts, the bracket fits to any handlebar diameter. You then use an Allen Key (which is also provided – a nice touch!) to secure the bracket to the handlebars. The fit felt nice and secure in a matter of moments – hooray!

The light then slots onto the bracket nice and easily – even with gloves on it is easy to pop on and off.

One of my favourite features of this light is the fact that it will only work when secured to the bracket. For me this is a bonus as lights turning on in my backpack is my biggest bug bear.

Now on the the most important thing – the light! Two buttons sit on top of the light, one which controls the light sequencing (flashing 100 lumens, solid 100 lumens or solid 300 lumens) and the other which  controls the laser which can be solid or flashing.

I have to say the laser took me a little while to get used to. I could see it catching the eye of other cyclists who were looking around to see where the little green bicycle in the middle of the road was coming from. Saying that, the reassurance that others could see me coming made me feel a lot safer on those dark, late night rides home.

While this bike light does tick a lot of boxes, there is one drawback – the price. At £125 it is pretty steep. This is definitely one piece of kit you will want to look after well.
