Women’s Tour Stage 3 Results: Chloe Hosking Wins After a Dramatic Bunch Sprint

Catch up with the latest action from Stage 3 of the OVO Energy Women's Tour

Finish: Royal Leamington Spa
Distance: 151km

After a slow start to stage one of the OVO Energy Women’s Tour, yesturday we saw the peloton turn up the heat in a fierce and fast finish. Today the riders set out from Atherstone on a 151km route which led them to the finishing line in Lemington Spa. Just to recap, here’s who had what jerseys at the end of stage two:

Lisa Klein (Cervélo Bigla) took the Eisberg Sprints jersey
Audrey Cordon Ragot (Wiggle High5) took the black Skoda UK QoM jersey
Hannah Barnes (Canyon//SRAM ) took the Adnams Best British Rider jersey
Katarzyna Niewiadoma (WM3) took the points jersey

With 93 riders setting off this morning, the neutral zone took the peloton to Birchley Heath which is where the race really began. Within the first 10km of racing, attempts were being made to break away from the peloton. A crash occurred 29km in which involved Boels Dolmans, Wiggle HIGH5, Cervélo Bigla and Canyon//SRAM riders, but thankfully, no one was seriously injured. The crash riders caught up with the peloton, but Alena Amialiusk (Canyon//SRAM) was out of the race.

After the first sprint at Kenilworth, Canyon//SRAM rider, Hannah Barnes suffers from a puncture and nine riders make a break for it, only to be caught 7km later. At kilometre 52 Winanda Spoor from Lensworld-Kuota abandon’s the race.

Cecille Ludiwg (Cervelo Bigla) was the lone leader but was joined by Gracie Elvin (Orica Scott) around the 88km mark gaining a 20-second lead. With 50km to go, Ludwig and Elvin held a 30 second lead on the three chasers: Gillow, Jasinska and Ritter.

On Edge Hill, the two leaders dropped back into the chase group. At the 117km, the leading group was: Ludwig (Cervélo), Elvin (Orica), Ritter (Drops), Jasinska (Cylance), Gillow (FDJ) gaining nearly 2 mins over the peloton.

With 20km to go, the leading group were holding steady with a 65 second lead over the peloton which is slowly lost over a straight section as the peloton were able to claw back 25 seconds. As the gap reduced to just 11 seconds, at the 141km mark there was another crash involving Boels-Dolmans, Marianne Vos (WM3) and Danni King (Wiggle High5) – who quickly got back on their bikes again.

With 5km to go, the leaders were caught by the peloton who powered on to a climatic finish. The frantic bunch sprint for the line was won by Chloe Hosking of Alé Cipollini.

Niewiadoma will head into Stage Four still wearing the green OVO Energy jersey.

Niewiadoma also retains the points jersey which will be worn by teammate Marianne Vos.

Alice Barnes takes the Adnams Best British Rider jersey for the second time this tour

Jolien D’Ho0re takes the sprint jersey going into stage four tomorrow.
