The Helix kit from Primal is their most advanced road cycling wear.
It was years in the making - with a full two years spent on the drawing board before the first samples were even sent out.
Having worn two generations of this premium offering now – the 2015 Sound Barrier and 2016 Le Tigra - we’re big fans at TWC. Probably our favourite thing about this summer jersey and bib combo is the way it’s highly technical whilst also being incredibly comfortable, and flattering. A hard mix to create but Primal have managed it.
The key material used is an incredibly lightweight SLR Ion fabric, which allows the skin to breath by letting cool air reach the surface as you work hard on the bike. Not only that, silver ions destroy bacteria, so you’re never too aware of exactly how hard you were working – even over long café stops in the summer sun.
AE Elite mesh side panels along the jersey go a long way to providing the perfect fit – that’s aero, without being at all restrictive, both off and on the bike. This 4-way super stretch means that this jersey isn’t just for whippet like racers, it looks great on anyone - and the wearer knows they’re getting optimum performance, whilst also looking and feeling the business.
To add an extra bit of zing to the aero offering from this set, Primal have used Z92 fabric on the cuffs of both the jersey and shorts. This offers a lovely shimmering glint in the summer sun, but it’s much more than that. The material provides compression, but also improved aerodynamics by breaking air surface tension, making this a credible option to someone after any saving in watts available to them.
When it comes to the bibs, there’s an HX8 Carbon Italian Chamois – and lets face it, who doesn’t want as much carbon as they can get? The material is in fact incredibly breathable, and a Resistex Anti-Static fabric treatment works to keep abrasion at bay whilst promoting blood flow. As well as being a 4 density, 4 way stretch construction, the use of a fusion technology which bonds the material to the shorts means there are no seams at all.
The Helix kit isn’t just available in the colour schemes Primal offer off the shelf – you can also opt to have a custom design printed. Primal print kit for teams and clubs – adding your colours to their technical constructions – and custom versions come with lazer cut sleeves for this year, a lovely tough that adds a hint of pro to your gear – especially when teamed with the matching arm and leg warmers, shoe covers and mitts that Primal can also create with your designs. And of course, the brand print every garment in both men's and women's versions - and that's exactly the way it should be.
