Bianchi’s brand new ‘Dama Demo days’ are all about getting more women’s bums on saddles.
Held at independent bike shops across the country, each day will feature talks from sponsored triathlete, Helen Croydon, as well as mechanical advice and the chance to test ride bikes.
The first event was held at Rutland Cycles – speaker Croydon told us: “At each event I’ll be giving a talk on how I muddled my way into this foreign new world, slowly acquiring a whole new vocabulary, not to mention the wardrobe and a new found resilience to the elements! Before triathlon, I rarely walked to the tube in the rain, let alone get on a bike. Last week I went out for five hours in the full knowledge that hail, rain and 20 mph winds were forecast. So I hope my story might put some women’s fears to rest.”
“It’s supposed to be informative and sociable and an opportunity for women to ask questions without being intimidated”
She added: “There will also be technical tips on maintaining a bike, kit essentials and riding in a peloton – which includes learning to shout ‘car!’ at the top of your voice – one of my greatest joys when I first took up the sport. Then the afternoon is rounded off with a no-pressure group cycle, with hire bikes available for those who don’t own their own stead – yet! It’s supposed to be informative and sociable and an opportunity for women to ask questions without being intimidated and become inspired to take up this great sport.”
