Etape Xtrem: The UK’s Longest and Toughest One-day Cyclosportive

The Tour de Mon is a non-competitive cycle event held on Sunday 17th August 2014, which takes riders around some of the best views and roads the beautiful island of Anglesey has to offer. The event is organised by local events specialists, Always Aim High Events, and sets off from Newry Beach in Holyhead.

A women’s only wave is available within each of the sportive distances, with a female wave leader for each distance to make sure everyone is well supported. On top of that everyone in the women’s wave will get a massage voucher to relax the legs. Anyone wanting to enter the women’s wave just needs to select the “women’s wave” option on the online Tour de Mon entry page.

The sportive will once again includes it’s infamous sprint stage entitled the ‘Flying Mile’. The Flying Mile gives cyclists (on the Mawr, Canol and Bach routes) the opportunity to race against the clock for aperfectly straight, uninterrupted mile along the runway at RAF Valley.

This is the second time the Tour de Mon will take place and after the incredibly successful first year event in 2013 where over 1000 took part the 2014 event is set to be unmissable.

For the first time ever the 2014 Tour de Mon will be held over two days and will include the Tour de Mon Cycle Festival. This festival will take place on Saturday 16th August while the actual Tour de Mon sportive will be held on the Sunday.

There will a half pipe for you to test your skills on, a pedal-powered cinema showing some exciting cycle films and the National Cycling Museum will also be there to teach you more about cycling history. There will be also be live music and a host of other attractions, including the fantastic Addo Mountain Bike Display team, to keep you entertained and lots of local fresh food retailers to feed your appetite.

The Tour de Mon has 4 choices of route meaning there is an option for everyone. Riders can choose from the 106-mile Mawr, the 75-mile Canol, the 40-mile Bach and finally the 6.5-mile Tour de Teulu. The Tour de Teulu is a completely free family ride suitable for all children who are accompanied by parents or adult friends. The 2013 Tour de Teulu attracted over 150 local family riders and it is expected that the 2014 ride will be even more popular.
