10 of the Best Road Bikes under £2000 2015
If your budget sits at £2000, you can afford something a little more swanky in the road bike department. This price bracket is where bike brands get a little more experimental, creative and downright aero.
But it can be a little confusing as to what you're looking for. At this level, brands will often have multiple bikes at the same price point, with seemingly very few differences in the spec. These models are more likely to dovetail when it comes to geometry – one will be designed to suit an endurance athlete, and another will maybe be more suited to a time trail cyclist.
It's also worth looking out for what groupset is on the bike. With these models it's most likely Shimano 105 (great) or Shimano Ultegra (better than 105) components in play, although some will use SRAM equivalents.
We hope this list of some of the best bikes on the market helps you make the right decision and get onto a beautiful bike ASAP!
Liv Avail Advanced 1, £1649
First up on our wishlist is the delicious Liv Avail Advanced 1 –an endurance orientated road bike with a composite frame made using raw carbon fibre. In layman's terms? It's light and stiff – getting you up hills in a sprightly fashion – with a D-Fuse seatpost designed to help fight off the fatigue caused by said stiffness. It also has a high quality Shimano Ultegra groupset and disc brakes.
And of course, we're still in thrall to the fact that Liv create their bikes for women, from the ground up. This is not a rebadged Giant, it's completely women's specific.
Trek Silque S, £1700
Intended as the great all-rounder, the Trek Silque S will do you in good stead over the miles. It's designed for a smooth and well-balanced ride, using women's specific frame geometry. It also comes with Trek's popular 'IsoSpeed decoupler' that claims to decrease road buzz and is also on the ubiquitous Trek Domane.
It comes with a high quality and female-friendly Bontrager finishing set, and utilises a Shimano 105 group set.
Specialized Ruby Elite Disc 2015 Women's Road Bike, £2000
The Specialized Ruby ELITE Disc 2015 Women's Road Bike sits at the top of our budget, but it's certainly worth considering. It's another all-rounder full carbon bike, with construction designed to minimise on extra materials and keep the setup incredibly light.
It comes with women's specific Specialized cranks, handlebars, and saddle and has a SRAM Rival groupset. As for it's road-dampening abilities, there are 'Viscoelastic dampers' integrated into the seatstays and fork to keep you fresh over the course of any sportive.
Looking for something more speed-orientated? Try the Specialized Amira SL4 Comp 2015 instead.
Cannondale Synapse Ultegra Womens 2015 Road Bike, £1999.99
Cannondale love a good acronym, and in the case of the Synapse it's their women's S.E.R.G that's making us feel funny. That's Synapse Endurance Race Geometry to you.
They explain this as an even spread of stack and reach, meaning that it has a taller head tube, relaxed head angle and longer wheelbase. The idea is that this translates to agility AND stability, making this the perfect endurance bike.
The Cannondale Synapse Ultegra Womens 2015 Road Bike also features a Shimano Ultegra 6800 groupset, Mavic Aksium 1 WTS wheelset, carbon frame and fork, and the well-reviewed Fi’zi:k Vesta saddle.
Cube Axial WLS GTC SL Womens 2015, £1699
The Cube Axial WLS GTC SL Womens 2015 is a really striking bicycle – we've seen it in the flesh and it is completely beautiful. It's set up for endurance racing, with extra large head tube and bottom bracket junctions for stiffness and precision.
The cockpit caters to ladies with a steam and bars intended for more female measurements, as well as a Selle Italia X1 WLS saddle to keep your nethers happy too.
It also features a Shimano Ultegra groupset and Fulcrum Racing 55 LG wheelset, with the whole bike weighing in at 7.8 kg.
Bianchi C2C Intenso Dama Bianca 105 Women's 2015, £1850
Full carbon frame, Shimano components (Ultegra chainset, 105 mechs), a tapered head tube to increase front-end tracking and a mix of Reparto and San Marco women's specific finishing components.
The Bianchi C2C Intenso Dama Bianca 105 Women's 2015 has it all, and if you're in thrall to the famous Italian brand, you'll undoubtably be happy riding this Intenso Dama Bianca for extended periods. Because of the endurance-friendly geometry, obviously. And cause it's pretty.
Scott Contessa Solace 25 Womens 2015, £1699
Again a few hundred quid short of the £2000 budget, the Scott Contessa Solace 25 Womens 2015 brings a lot of bang-per-buck to the table. The finishing set includes a female-friendly carbon seatpost to go with the rest of the women's specific frame which is also carbon.
Shimano 105 componentry, Schwalbe Durano tyres and a Syncros Women Road Endurance saddle make it clear that this bike is for those of you looking to take on extended periods in the saddle with a bicycle that remains nimble.
Trek Emonda SL 5 2015 Women's Road Bike, £1900
Do you live to climb? Most of the bikes on this list are for the all-rounder; the sportive obsessive. The Trek Emonda SL 5 2015 Women's Road Bike, however, is for those of you that are obsessed with being QOM every single time.
The Emonda series gave the world the lightest production road bike ever, and this entry level women's model has been designed to keep everything feather-like. Everything is, of course, carbon and the Shimano 105 groupset will keep you ticking over smoothly. It is, of course, going to be jittery because of it's lightness. But if you're all about conquering the incline, that won't matter to you anyway.
Liv Envie Advanced 2015, £1649
If time trial is more your thing, then it's time to get yourself a Liv Envie Advanced 2015. As with the Avail, this Liv has been built for women in every respect. But unlike it's sibling, this Envie will take no prisoners. It's geometry is for aggressive racing – it's incredibly stiff and aerodynamic, meaning it cuts through the air with ease. Even more so if it's got Marianne Vos in the saddle, of course.
The Shimano Ultegra groupset also ensures everything remains as smooth as your streamlined-self. It's also really quite amazing to find a women's specific aero bike at all, never mind at this price point. Good job, Liv.
Colnago CLD 105 2015, £1999.99
Another classic brand, the Colnago CLD 105 2015 has women's specific geometry on it's carbon frame, with a short top tube that provides comfort and an integrated steering column for rigidity and precision.
It comes with a mix of Shimano 105, Tiagra, Deda and, of course, Colnago componenets as well one of the popular Selle Italia Lady Flow saddles. Again, this bike is a good all-rounder for a sportive enthusiast.
