Review: Funkier J-393 Jersey

Did Lorena love or hate the Funkier J-393 jersey?

Note: I’m wearing arm warmers in these pictures!

If ever I had the chance to compare a jersey to Marmite, I would say now is the time! Available in three colours; pink, blue and green, the Funkier J-393 Jersey is quite unique in that the sleeves are rather short, almost non-existent in fact.

This is of course perfect for summer riding, especially when you are aiming to avoid tan lines in the hope of wearing a pretty summer dress once off the bike, and perfect too for indoor sessions at your local gym or cycling center where temperature control can be difficult at the best of times. I would say though that as with every piece of kit, whether or not this jersey is for you would largely depend on personal preference, and the sleeves just may well be the deciding factor here.

The J-393 Funkier Jersey manages to remain discrete and tasteful when it comes to branding; A small plastic ‘Funkier’ label features on the rear left pocket, not so far from a tab with a similar design. In addition the Funkier name and logo features on the rear of the neckline allowing those behind you to see what jersey you have on as you overtake them, providing you have your hair up of course. Further branding appears on the gripper on the hem of the jersey. Not too loud and shouty, this does add to the overall style of the jersey.

The gripper on the hem of the jersey adds a practical element too, and prevents the jersey from riding up when cycling. This is especially important given the snug fit of the Funkier J-393 jersey, which allows for the breatheable polyester Quick Dry yarn bird eye mesh fabric to sit close to the skin and draw any moisture away. Where the fabric does feel somewhat feel thicker to touch in comparison to standard jersey fabrics it does remain surprisingly breathable and thus is not uncomfortable at all.

The Funkier J-393  jersey has two back pockets, one with an extra water resistant layer that is great for protecting your phone and such and on the same pocket there is a zipped outer section, which is perfect for keeping your keys and/or money safe. Useful and practical, these features can make the jersey feel a little stiff and heavier than perhaps it could be, especially in addition to the thicker fabric used.

The full plastic zipper
on the front of the Funkier J-393 jersey is handy in that you are better able to regulate your temperature control but the feel of the zipper is not of the best quality when compared with some other jerseys I have worn. That said, the low price point make this jersey our perfect everyday jersey and with that great value for money too, especially given the technical features behind the design.

My last point is to the UPF 50+ which is noted on the website.  As mentioned previously, this jersey is perfect for summer riding, thus the UPF 50+ is, of course, fabulous, however do remember to pop sun-cream where the jersey doesn’t cover you and remember you will need to take a little extra for those arms!

Pros

– Perfect for summer riding and in door training.

– Price point makes this jersey the perfect everyday jersey.

Cons

– The style and snug fit may not be for everyone.

– A little heavier than your standard jersey.

Price: £46.00, available from Funkier.
