Erring on the leaner side, these commuter cycling trousers give an elegant, form fitting silhouette and have all the technical features, including being made from four way stretch material to keep you pedalling in comfort.

Made locally in New York, adhering to Bluesign environmental standards, these eco-friendly trousers are available in four colours; black, slate gray, brick (red) and olive drab. Just be cautious when you order, don't forget the US sizing difference.

Another offering from the other side of the Pond, from a company called Proof NY. These drainpipe-esque trousers are currently only available for pre-order - a true exclusive.

Proof NY create clean, simply designed clothing, with a focus on thoughtful details. They ensure that all their products can stand up to the rigours of daily use, but at the end of the day are stylish and highly functional clothing.

The fabric of choice is again four-way stretch, allowing freedom of movement while you're pedalling. The Vissers have a slim, form-fitting cut and subtle front contrast piping that provides a hidden peek of colour. Available in Pine Gray or Ash blue.

Over on the other side of the globe, the Australians have been busy creating a beautiful pair of cycling jeans with thin chamois stitched in. Not your average pair of jeans, they're jam packed with features.

The slim fit jeans are cut with cycling in mind, with a high back for coverage and low front. There's a double reinforced crotch and rear for increased durability, including a 2mm light chamois to take the edge out of being in the saddle on a long commute.

The Creux slim fit cycling jeans are available in Indigo Raw (blue) and Black, from Australian Size 8 to 14. They offer a conversion size chart on their site too!

Now we move onto the trousers that although not specifically designed for women are wonderful commuter cycling trousers that deserve to be shared. This pair of lightweight slacks are from Swrve, designers of urban cycling apparel.

The Lightweight WWR trousers are new to Swrve and made from fabric that is water and wind repellant, to help keep you dry if you get caught in a shower. They're packed with cycle specific features such as articulated knees, seamless gusseted crotch, reflective belt looks and the jeans-style back pockets fit a mini U-lock.

Swrve cater for waist sizes 28 to 38 inches with an inseam of either 32 or 34 inches. The trousers are available in either black, blue or grey.

If these commuter cycling trousers are anything to go by, we can't wait for Vulpine's expanded women's range that should hopefully be rolled out in August this year. Every detail has been thoroughly thought through for optimal comfort while cycling.

The pockets have been carefully situated, so nothing falls out or gets in the way as you're pedalling. At the rear, you'll find hidden underneath a pocket flap a reflective ribbon that can be exposed for extra visibility, or even to clip a light to.

A silicone waist gripper combined with high rear helps keep you covered so you never show more than you need. Available in Khaki and Charcoal Grey, from XS to XL.

Any list of cycling trousers wouldn't be complete without an entry from Levi's. Designed for the urban cyclist, the 511 skinny commuter trousers are durable, featuring a double-layered seat and back pockets to help minimise wear and tear in the saddle.

A nifty design feature is the U-lock storage loop on the waistband, helping reduce time when you're chaining your bike up. The 511s allow you to ride, live and work in the same pair of trousers - we like!

With the widest variation in sizes from a 27 to 38 inch waist, with three leg lengths 30, 32 and 34 inch, these trousers are definitely suitable for women, with the cream option you could even get away with them in a smartish office.

These trousers ooze the style and sophistication we've come to expect of Rapha. The City Trousers include the features you would expect for commuter cycling trousers; stretch fabric, reinforced seat panel, and inside leg seams positioned to prevent chafing.

As with most Rapha clothing, these trousers are form fitting but offer enough stretch to fit in cyclists calves and thighs. Available in two colours, beige and navy, with sizing ranging from 28" to 38" waist.

Okay, we said 10 but we actually meant 11. In March 2014, Dare2b are set to release an all new urban cycling range, which will include, yes - you've guessed it - a pair of commuter cycling trousers!

Although we don't know a great deal about the details, we've had a sneak peek at the range and wowzers, we can't wait to get our hands on some of the 16-piece urban cycle clothing, that includes men's and women's shirts, vests, jackets, trousers, shorts and hoodies, each piece suitable for both on and off the bike.
