New Orbital Cycling Festival promises plenty for women

The Goodwood Motor Circuit is best know for races with vehicles that have, erm, motors. But from 26-28 July it will be hosting the first Orbital Cycling Festival – a three day event that promises to have you riding round in circles for 72 hours.

Ready to race at Goodwood. There’ll be lots to do for all types of riders, and plenty of women’s events, organisers say.

Combining camping and a good time vibe with races on the circuit pretty much all day every day, it promises to be a great place to get your race head on without submitting to the pressure of a full on meet.

The roster of rides for women is long including a road race, sprint, cross race, a fixed gear criterium and an urban paddock race which we can only assume is mountain biking on grass.

For those of you with kids there’s an inflatable play track complete with balance bikes which frankly sounds like pure comedy.

There’ll also be the ubiquitous trials demos, flatland BMX, lots of nosh and beer and you’re close enough to the South Downs to hop the fence with your mountain bike and go for a cheeky ride.

Oh and on a history note: the 1982 World Road Championships were held at Goodwood and were won by a Brit, Mandy Jones. So go do her proud!

Entry tickets go on sale at the end of January so keep an eye out.
