Solo Victory for King Whilst Juniper Seals the Overall at Matrix GP Series

Confidence boost for King ahead of the Women's Tour and a hard fought win for Juniper

The final round of the Matrix GP Series was won by a solo effort from Dani King, whilst series leader Nikki Juniper retained her title despite a last minute puncture.

Wiggle-Honda’s Dani King showed she was on form for the Aviva Women’s Tour, starting next week, with a solo breakaway which lasted for 35 minutes of the 45 minute criterium in Bath.

She said following the race: “Training’s been going well at the moment. Obviously it’s really nice to win, to get some confidence in my form with the Women’s Tour coming up. Obviously it was a crit, not a road race, but I had a few good results in Belgium and Holland in the last weeks; I guess with that, and the crit tonight, and just general training, it’s looking good for me to be able to help the team to do the best we can in the Tour next week.”

The bunch sprint that exploded after King crossed the line was won by RST Racing’s Jessie Walker, who was also second in both the Overall Classification and Sprint Standings, with Team WNT’s Charlene Joiner in third.

Nikki Juniper (Giordana Triton), who has lead the overall standings from Round One in Redditch, retained her lead. The battle was close fought, however, as she suffered a puncture with just two laps to go. The delay left her one point ahead of Walker, and she also lead the Sprint Standings.

The Team Win was an honour to be taken by Pearl Izumi Sports Tours International, who took to the lead from Juniper’s team Giordana Triton after Round Four .
