Round five of the Revolution Series will hit the Lee Valley Velodrome this evening with track racing spanning two days and the first female Hour Record attempt in over a decade.

Dame Sarah Storey’s Hour Record attempt will take place on Saturday afternoon and she needs to ride more than 46km in sixty minutes to take the title. It is the first attempt since the UCI relaxed the rules to allow modern equipment.

The Paralympian has six gold road and track medals spanning over two Olympic adventures, and has said: “I’m excited and nervous at the prospect of being the first woman to take on the record in over a decade.”

Elite women will race six events over the weekend, with Laura Trott returning following the Track World Championships. As well as the usual mix of races, she’ll be competing in her second ever Derny Race on Saturday evening – where riders sit behind a motorcycle on the track as the speed gradually increases.

Laura raced the Derny in 2010 – and finished the race as National Champion, so though her experience might be limited she’s certainly got the credentials!

Junior women will race in the HOY Future Stars events also with fifteen and sixteen year olds batelling it out for a champion title over a further three events.

Racing will take place this evening, and on Saturday afternoon and evening – you can buy tickets here and the elicrifying atmosphere of a full velodrome, plus the opportunity to see a moment in women’s cycling history is well worth it.
