Vos Adapts her Season Goals as Injury Continues to Plague Her

Marianne still recovering and out of competition until further notice

Marianne Vos crosses the finish line to win stage four of the Women’s Tour in Welwyn Garden City

At full fitness, Marianne Vos has been called ‘unbeatable’ – Olympic Champion, winner of the 2014 Women’s Tour and La Course, 2014 UCI Cyclocross World Champion – we can’t even begin to list every achievement.

However, the Queen of the Road has been suffering with injuries on and off since December. It seemed that all would be well when she returned with a lower key mountain bike race in April, but just one week later she fractured a rib racing in Austria.

Repair seemed to be quick, and though Vos was not down to be at the start line of the Women’s Tour, she did plan to race at the European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, this month.

However, a team announcement on Wednesday announced that 28-year-old Vos was still not competition fit, stating: “Marianne Vos takes rest for a full recovery… [she] will again adjust her programme for the current season.”

The announcement stated that she had “not fully recovered from the injuries sustained” during the cyclocross season and first part of the  road season.

Rab0-Liv added: “Marianne does not feel fit enough to prepare thoroughly”, explaining that she and the management had agreed to take a break from competition so as to “unleash and restore first whole.” They added that Vos’ return to racing did not yet have a date attached to it.

Vos commented on the news herself, saying: “[It was] not an easy decision to skip the upcoming races, but I need more training time to be race ready again.”

Turning out to support her team at the Fleche Wallone in April, she commented:

It might have been hard to watch, but Vos’ support on the sidelines shows huge strength and support for her team.

A flick through Marianne Vos’ achievements tells us that she races to win, so we know that she’ll return to competition only when she’s on form to cross finish lines in first place. We’re looking forward to seeing her on the podium again soon.
