London cafe, bike workshop and home to some of the coolest city cycling events, Look Mum No Hands! will host the first ever women's only Rollapaluza racing night next week.
The date is set for Tuesday December 13, and the event will kick off at 7pm at the cafe's Old Street location. Prizes have already been donated by Specialized, ASSOS, The Cycling Store, London Bike Kitchen and Good Ordering.
Rollapaluza racing sees riders pitted against each other, pedalling as fast as they possibly can, over a very short period, on a fixed gear bike. The fastest rider wins and is sent through to the next round, until an eventual winner is selected. Speeds can exceed 50mph (though the rider will be stationary!), and even if you don't make it through to the final rounds the evening always involves music, commentary, and a lot of fun. In this case snacks and drinks will be aplenty, too!
Alex Davis of Look Mum No Hands! commented: "At Look Mum No Hands! we're keen to support all types of cyclists, when we were approached by Rollapaluza to host separate events it made sense. This past year we've worked with ASSOS, Specialized and the London Bike Kitchen on women's specific events and we will continue to do so in 2017 and beyond."
Rollapaluza's Caspar Hughes added: "This year we've chosen to run a separate events for women and men, the sole focus of the race on the 13th December at Look Mum No Hands will be to find the fastest female in London, nothing else matters."
You'll be on a fixed gear bike - that means cadence is king - so best get practicing!
