European Track Championships 2013, Day 3, Trott takes gold in the women’s omnium

Laura Trott finished the European Track Championships on a high as she wins gold in the women’s omnium on the final day of the competition.

A second gold for Laura Trott in the European Track Championships

After suffering minor injuries from a crash on day two that needed medical attention, Laura Trott showed she’s made of strong stuff when she went on to win gold in the women’s omnium ahead of home favourite Kirsten Wild.

On day two of the European Track Championships the six-event Omnium competition began. By the end of the day, after three events; the flying lap, 20km points race and elimination race, Trott sat in third place

With three remaining events in the omnium; the individual 3km pursuit, 10km scratch race and the final 500m time trial, it was a closely fought contest between Trott and Wild.

Both riders finished the six-event Omnium with 15 points, however, because Trott finished four-tenths of a second quicker over the three timed events, the flying lap, individual pursuit and 500m time trial she was eventually crowned winner.

A superb performance from Trott over the three-day championships with her victory in the omnium bringing her a second gold, following her first in the team pursuit alongside Dani King, Elinor Barker, Katie Archibald and Joanna Rowsell on the opening day.
