From the MTB Mecca and home of Crankworx, Sombrio Clothing really know to how get women's kit down.
Manufacturing biking apparel since the 80's when second-skin Lycra was still donning the trails, Sombrio has grown and evolved with the rapidly growing mountain bike scene. Despite their long-running, it's only more recently we've seen the Sombrio's female line make its way over the pond.
From jackets, jerseys, shorts and accessories, Sombrio has you covered in beautiful and functional designs and cuts. We took out their 2016 women's trail kit for a blast around the berms of Clyne Woods.
Sombrio Pedigree Jersey
The Pedigree jersey from Sombrio is the ultimate trail jersey. It's made from a silky feel lightweight and high wicking fabric, Cool Wik, the jersey keeps moisture away from the body so you feel drier for longer.
With a baseball shirt style design, the 3/4 sleeve jersey has a lovely tapered slim fit but can be easily worn as a second layer, or as a stand alone top for riding in.
I got on really well with this jersey for the simple reason that it's super comfortable and it has great breathability qualities. The sleeves are loose enough to allow airflow and elbow pads and the fit has a lovely subtle feminine cut, without being restrictive.
Sizes: X.Small - X.Large
Sombrio Summit Shorts
No jersey is complete without the shorts and lucky for you, Sombrio has a variety of styles to suit all-mountain shredders. What's even better is that these styles come in a number of colours, so you can go full Power Ranger, or mix n' match your riding attire.
The biggest problem I face with shorts is the length of the legs. Being a little lanky, I find that shorts never come low enough on the knee to avoid that dreaded pad gap on the thigh. Fortunately, I didn't have this problem and much to my delight, no thigh skin was on display whilst pedalling.
The ultra-lightweight 4-way stretch fabric moves comfortably with the body, providing enough flex for a full range of motion on the bike.
With a super secure fastening system on the front, and retention tabs on the sides, it's easy to get a comfy fit without worrying about any slipping or sliding. There's adequate ventilation on the inner legs which have been laser cut to enhance breathability.
Sizes: X.Small - X.Large
It's all thumbs up for the new Sombrio women's trail kit. Extremely comfortable to find it, stay cool in and look good!
I got on particularly well with the jersey for being so pleasant to ride in on those hot muggy days, and still providing enough coverage from the sun and rogue branches.
The women's line from Sombrio is growing each year, offering more styles, cuts and options to give us even more options to wear on the trails.
It was only a couple of years ago that women's mountain bike apparel was in such short supply, and hordes of trail hungry women were crying out for help.
Thankfully our calls are being answered and bike brands, both big and small, are taking note and making things happen. The women's clothing industry is so new that it's still developing an identity for itself, but be sure to know it's heading in the right direction.
