Where to Ride: Mountain Biking at Coed y Brenin

From skills areas to the Beast of Brenin - there's something for everyone

The first and biggest mountain bike centre in Wales, Coed y Brenin features hand built, all-weather singletrack trails, from the beginner’s Yr Afon, to black routes like the 38km ‘Beast of Brenin’.

Technical loops will work you hard but you’ll be constantly rewarded with rugged mountain views of Snowdonia that will make it all worth it.

The bike shop and visitors center Beics Brenin offers parking, toilets, showers, bike wash facilities, bike hire, café and an adventure playground for kids.

The centre hosted a day with Tracy Moseley & Manon Carpenter recently – here are some of the lucky ladies that rode with them.

This centre is home to some of the most demanding trails in the UK – Tarw Du, the first UK purpose built trail, MBr, with rocky, technical challenges, and the Best of Brenin, which is long, technical and demanding, but highly rewarding.

Despite the nature of the toughest trails, Coed y Brenin is one of the most inclusive centres, too. There are three red routes, from 8.7km to the 31km Dragons Back, and two green routes around the 10km mark.

Not only that, but if you’re just getting into the sport, you can practice your skills in a dedicated area, ‘The Foundry’. This 4-area training facility is specifically designed for honing core skills – so there really is something for everybody here.

If you’re not sure what sort of beast you should be tackling once you get onto the trails, there is a ‘Singletrack Zone’ where you can see the differences between the trails on offer.

The café serves fairtrade and local produce only, and there are some awesome trails for runners and walkers, too. Basically – what more could you want?!
