Reviewed: Endura WMS MT500 Jacket

When it comes to buying a new riding jacket, there’s a lot to consider. Sure, there are the basic fundamentals that we look for, but now with so much choice on the market, it’s becoming increasingly more difficult to make a decision and click that “buy” button.

British cycling brand, Endura, is no stranger to some market competition. They strive to not only produce quality cycling apparel, but they throw in a few extra features that you didn’t even know you wanted.

The MT500 range from Endura is their mountain bike specific collection that has everything to kit you out from head to toe. We took the new Endura WMS MT500 waterproof jacket out for a spin to see if ticked all the boxes and more.

When it’s wet, cold and messy out there, you want some good coverage to keep you warm and dry. To ride in these conditions though, you need a little more than your average waterproof jacket, and that’s where Endura comes in.

Here are the best reasons to ride in the mud

The new Endura WMS MT500 waterproof jacket is the latest creation of the Edinburgh based brand. It’s women’s specific, so you know it has a lovely long fit with a slight taper at the waist for a more feminine shape and the cobalt blue/mint green colourway is rather attractive, without being too girly.

So, it looks good but what else? Well, the MT500 waterproof jacket is bursting with cool features to keep you riding comfortably and of course, stylishly.

Firstly, there are a lot of zips on this jacket but all with good reason. There’s a full-length one running top to bottom to actually get in and out, another two on the side as pockets and two more under the arms for ventilation. Now, the vented openings are a real life-saver as the waterproof material isn’t the most breathable so having the option to let out some heat and get some cooling air in, really helps.

The whole jacket has been constructed from ExoShell60™ 3-Layer waterproof fabric. There are silicone grippers on each shoulder to help keep your hydration pack in place, the seams are fully sealed and the hood has a great degree of adjustability.

The cuffs of each sleeve are adjustable with Velcro fasteners and sown in underneath is a soft material to loop around your thumbs to ensure your sleeves stay down and keep the draught out.

Verdict

Did the Endura WMS MT500 waterproof jacket tick the box of essentials? Yes. Does it come with additional features to make you say “wow”? Yes. Is there a catch? Well…

Admittedly, this jacket is not the most affordable waterproof on the market. From £190, the WMS MT500 jacket sits in the upper end of the budget scale and it’s no real surprise. From what we’ve seen from Endura in the past, their MTB range of apparel keeps going from strength to strength.

However, if you’re looking for a reliable waterproof jacket that performs well on the bike and looks great off it too, then seriously consider this one as an investment.
