Review: Scott W’s Sky Shorts

Rachel Sokal tests out the Scott W's Sky Shorts, perfect for both road and mtb riding.

The Scott W’s Sky Shorts are Scott’s basic padded cycling shorts for road or mtb use, decent enough to be worn on their own but also light enough to go under baggies on the mountain bike.

As a size 10 the small fitted me nicely on the legs and the waist. The leg length was reasonably short, around mid-thigh, which could lead to havoc with your cycling tan if you’re used to something a little longer.

Otherwise, the looks of the Scott W’s Sky Shorts are fairly nondescript – the version I tested were plain black but they’re also available in turquoise or blue.  The only noticeable design feature is the chequered patterning on the inside of the waist band which isn’t on show once they’re on.

The synthetic material is soft and comfortable and these shorts have more of a natural fabric feel than a lot of cycling shorts.  The shorts were equipped with Scott’s ++ Sport Padding chamois which is described as having different padding thicknesses and densities and good ventilation – overall I found it rather light and thin.

Having said that, I found it was actually very comfortable on shorter rides although not so good on anything more than a couple of hours in the saddle.

Whilst there isn’t anything wrong with the shorts,  for that kind of money I’d like to have seen a better quality chamois.
