Fox Flux Diva 2013 women’s MTB helmet

If you’re looking for an MTB helmet with a great fit, great coverage and a bit of style, at a price that won’t break the bank, the Flux Diva helmet from Fox is surely a contender.

Fox may not have the biggest range of women’s specific kit, but what they do have is well thought through.

The Flux Diva is a trail helmet, and so has good all-over coverage, sitting low at the back and comfortably mid-forehead. The helmet shell wraps around over the cushioning EPS foam providing extra strength and protection, and the straps are fastened and adjustable in the usual way, with nice touches like the Fox branded buckles.

The fit adjusts using Fox’s ‘Detox’ system – a double ratchet rather than a twistable adjuster. I found this easy to use, and was even able to adjusting the tightness one handed while riding.

I have a rather small head, just under 54cm, so I opted for the XS/S, which equates to 50 – 54cm, and I found this to be a great fit. There was enough give on the ratchet system to slip it on easily, and it fitted comfortably around the crown of the head.

The ‘Detox’ double ratchet fastening provides good fit adjustment

There are 20 vents in this helmet, and channels at the front of the helmet are intended to allow air to flow up over the scalp and through those vents. In practice, I did experience a cooling flow of air when riding. It’s not the most well vented helmet I’ve ever used, but it’s more than fine for the vast majority of riding I’m going to be doing.

There’s a peak at the front of the helmet that’s removable, but sadly not adjustable. It did the trick in bright, sunny conditions, keeping the sun out of my eyes, but being able to move it a little out of the would be nice. There’s also a rear spoiler – a feature I’ve never seen on a helmet before. This isn’t removable, but as I liked the look of it, this didn’t bother me.

The Flux Diva also happens to come in some of my fave colours; a nice stealth matt black with teal details. These colours complement the other pieces of kit Fox produce, like the Tech Tee and the digit gloves, so you can go for the whole matching ensemble if you fancy.

It’s not the lightest helmet out there, and sadly Fox don’t provide a weight, but with such a good fit I wasn’t too bothered. I found it comfortable to wear for several hours at a time in the saddle.

VERDICT

A very comfortable helmet with great coverage and good ventilation; this is a great option for trail riding and general mountain biking.
