If you haven’t come across SCOTT through cycling, the chances are you’ll have encountered the brand if you are into winter sports or motocross.

Started by Ed Scott, an engineer and ski racer from Idaho in the US, they’ve now expanded into a globally recognised brand, with a strong base in Europe.

SCOTT have been around since 1958, starting out with ski equipment and rapidly branching out into motocross and cycling, producing their first mountain bike in 1986. Among the numerous innovations they’ve developed are suspension forks with adjustable modes, lightweight carbon MTB’s with long travel suspension for all mountain riding, lightweight carbon road bike frames, and new goggle lens technologies for bright conditions.

As well as producing a huge range of hardware for skiing and cycling, they also have a long history – over 20 years - in the making of soft goods, such as clothing, shoes and helmets.

Today SCOTT produce an extensive range of technical kit for women, including products for road cycling, triathlon, and cross country and trail mountain biking. Bib-shorts, long sleeve jerseys, baggy shorts, waterproof jackets, arm warmers and base layers – Scott have the works.

The items you see here are available through any SCOTT stockists; if they don't have it in store, they should be able to order it in for you.

We’ve got a selection of kit that’s suitable for keeping you out riding in the changeable autumn months, both on road and on the trail. So sit back and enjoy the gallery!

[part title='SCOTT W’s Shadow EVO bib shorts']

scott bib shorts ed

Straight out of the post bag, it's clear to see that the Shadow EVO bib shorts vary from the norm. In terms of design, the bibs resemble more of a tri-suit, with its integrated sports bra built complete with elasticated band round the torso, attached to the bibs top, and racer back mesh strap.

To combat overheating, SCOTT have included mesh paneling around the torso section to connect the bra to the waist of the shorts, although we guess the top section could act as a base layer in cooler months.

Moving inside, the chamois incorporates what SCOTT describe as their newest technologies. Essentially, what we can gather is that the pad varies in thickness, with a 'Y-shape' section down the centre being the densest. To be honest, there's not a great deal of padding, especially at the front - possibly to prevent bunching - so we're interested to see how these do in test.

Down to the legs; the lycra used doesn't feel all that thick, so they may end up riding up the thighs and not offering enough compression, but we'll give them the benefit of the doubt in testing. There's also an elastic gripper band used at the hem, with integrated silicon strip around the inside to help keep them in place.

These bib leggings revert back to the traditional style of straps. The top half, as you'd expect is made of lighter thinner material than the legs, to help wick moisture away, almost mesh like in its texture.

Panelling around the torso and waist utilises lycra that is fleecy lined, while not as thick as the leg fabric will hopefully keep your kidneys warm. SCOTT promote the W's Shadow AS B-tights as being able to withstand temperatures reaching -5°.

The use of fabric on the legs has been thought through, internally all of the panels have a fleecy back, so your legs feel snug and keep in the warmth. On the front panels, to help keep the wind out, they've used a windstopper top layer. A teflon finishing has been used for the rear leg panels, to protect against water and dirt.

Reaching the hem, the cuff of the leg is folded back on itself, so there are no seams. A zipper is featured down the side of the ankle, with reflective detailing.

In terms of the chamois, it's worlds apart from the bib shorts, more a sponge foam-type pad that seems to be quite large width wise! Again, we'll see how it works in the test rides before we pass judgement on its comfort.

[part title='SCOTT W’s Vikos jacket']

A very light, packable waterproof jacket, this will happily squeeze into a small rucksack or bag ready to spring into action if the weather turns inclement. It even comes with a small bag, made of the same material as the jacket, for just such a purpose. Fully taped seams and Scott’s ‘DRYOsphere’ technology should ward off the worst of the autumn rain, but we’ll see how they do in the product test

The jacket comes with an integral hood which has a toggle at the back for adjusting the fit, one each side of the face, and another around neckline to keep things snug while riding. One point worth mentioning is that it's not detachable, and there's nowhere to fold it out of the way if you don't want it up.

The cut is described as 'athletic' and it is a fitted feminine shape, but there still seems to be room to manoeuvre. On an initial quick try on, we were pleased at the sleeve length - long enough to come down over the hands, with velcro pull tabs to tighten the cuffs.

There are a range range of colours available, with contrasting zip colours, making these jackets quite stylish looking. We opted to have a closer look at the green option. It’s a vibrant colour, and while not flouro, would show up in low light conditions which could place it as a contender for a multi-tasking product that will help you be seen on the road, and keep you dry on the trail.

Size available: XS - XL

Price: RRP £189.99

Longsleeve base layer scott

As the weather turns cooler, it’s time to think about layering up, and Scott’s Next2Skin base-layers incorporate several pieces of technology to keep you warm and dry. DRYOxcel fabric is designed to dry faster, Interpower technology is a textile finish that promotes wicking, and ‘Pure by Heiq’ is a treatment that prevents odour build up.

Panels across the body are made up of different fabric types, so it’s lighter and thinner where you sweat more, and thicker in others areas like the front section. Flatlock seams should prevent rubbing and chafing.

[part title='SCOTT W’s Ozette Polo Shirt']

If you are looking for a top for mountain biking, or indeed for any riding, but you don’t like the look of regular jerseys, then this might be just the ticket.

Part of SCOTT's all-mountain range, it's designed to work hard and is made from technical fabric that keeps you cool and odour free.

Odour prevention comes courtesy of Chitosante, an anti-microbial product developed from chitin. (Fascinating fact: Chitin is the main structural component of insect and crustacean exoskeletons). The shirt also has Coolmax fabric, to wick sweat away from the skin and keep you cool.

Cut like a polo shirt, with a feminine cut but loose relaxed fit, we think this top would look relaxed on and off the bike, so could also be a good option for riding around town. We were impressed with the length of the top, coming down over the hips on the 5"8 model.

Size available: XS - XL

Price: £49.90

Colour options: Black, Tile Blue (Pictured), Raspberry Pink

sky shorts

These ¾ length will keep your knees warm and your legs a little more covered on your rides as the temperature drops. A relaxed fit should give you plenty of room for movement, and the fabric itself is stretchy to allow plenty of movement.

Velcro pull tabs in the waistband give you control over the fit, and the shorts fasten with a zip fly and a double plastic popper. Belt loops give you the option of even more security if you like to wear a belt when riding. There are 2 pockets at the hip, with the left pocket having a zip closing.

The shorts come with a detachable Scott chamois liner, so you can wear them with or without as you choose. This is made from a lightweight stretch material, with Scott’s +basic padding chamois pad.

They’re also available as regular shorts, if you like the look and feel but prefer a shorter length.
