If you’ve been on the lookout for kit online, there’s a fairly good chance you’ve visited online cycling super-store Wiggle. And if you have, there’s also a fairly good chance you’ve encountered kit by dhb.

dhb (yes, it’s all lowercase!) is Wiggle's own brand of cycling clothing, it caters to road cyclists and mountain bikers alike, and it's got a reputation for being excellent value for money.

One of the interesting element of dhb range is that there is an equal number of pieces for men and women. You won’t ever look at a men’s jersey or shorts option and wish they did it for women too – because they do. This is highly refreshing, and we wish more brands did this.

We’ve already had a look at some of the road cycling offerings and been impressed with what we’ve seen; check out our reviews for the Chevron Air jersey, and Ladies Trace bib shorts.

Now it’s the turn of dhb’s MTB kit. We’ve got in a selection of gear to test and review, but first – let’s get our first impressions.

[part title="dhb Dare Long Sleeve Thermal Jersey"]

dhb dare jersey 13

A long sleeved, fleecy jersey with a full-length zip, this looks like it would feel nice to snuggle into on cold autumn or spring rides.

The jersey has a feminine, fitted cut, with a drop tail, and a high neckline that looks like it’s going to keep those chill winds at bay too.

Silicone patches on the top of the shoulder will help your rucksack stay in place and protect the jersey fabric. This jersey also has three pockets at the rear – a top entry one, and two zip-fastening pockets, each accessible from the side.

Price: £55.99

Size: UK 8, 10, 12, 14, 16

Colours: Green/White or Grey/White (pictured)

[part title="dhb Ladies Long-sleeved Merino Base Layer"]

dhb merino base layer 13

Made of soft, fine merino wool, this base layer could make a good addition to any ride wardrobe. Categorized as M_200 merino, it’s a slightly heavier-weight option that aims to provide a bit more insulation in the colder months, without sacrificing breathability.

Merino wool is also renowned for it’s natural anti-microbial properties, meaning they get less whiffy after use than many man-made fibres.

The cut is a feminine and also what dhb called ‘form fit’ – essentially, it’s a close fitting top, which is what you want from a base layer. The wool has a fair bit of stretch.

Price: £34.99

Size: UK 8, 10, 12, 14, 16

Colour: Black (pictured) and Fucsia

[part title="dhb Defy Short Sleeve Tech Jersey"]

dhb defy jersey 13_edited-1

A lightweight jersey made from performance lycra fabric, and designed with mountain bikers in mind. It has a feminine, fitted cut, and a more breathable mesh Lycra is used around the arms and upper back, and also on the sleeve cuffs.

There’s a full-length zip, that when fully done up rests in a zip garage on the high collar. Silicone grippers on the shoulder keep your rucksack in place and protect the jersey from rubbing.

The jersey has a slight drop tail, and silicone grip on the hem at the rear to keep the jersey in place, though not at the front. Four pockets at the back should give ample space for stowing bits and pieces; three large top-entry pockets, and one smaller side entry zip pocket.

Price: £44.99

Size: UK 8, 10, 12, 14, 16

Colours: Green/Black (pictured), Grey/Black, White/Black

[part title="dhb Dyno Baggy Short with removable pad"]

dhb dyno shorts 13

We can’t wait to see how these do in the test, because our first impressions are very favourable.

For a start, they come with their own liner shorts. These consist of a fairly cushioned chamois, stretch Lycra, breathable mesh panels and elastic leg cuffs and waistband. They are fully detachable too, so if they’re not to your fancy you can take them out.

The shorts themselves are made from a four-way stretch fabric, with a DWR finish to keep some of the mud and water off.

With a baggy cut, they have a higher waistband at the back, and are adjustable at the waist with Velcro pull-tabs. Ventilation at the lower back and inner legs comes courtesy of teeny laser-cut holes.

The Dyno shorts have three pockets; one at each hip, and one at the rear with a reinforced zip. There’s even a little goggle/glasses wipe.

Price: £62.99

Size: UK 8, 10, 12, 14, 16

Colours: Black
