Social media has allowed the world to stay connected. Friendships have been rekindled, news is shared and funny cat videos are a plenty. Social media has also provided us with small precious windows into the lives of our heroes, as we follow men and women who fascinate, entertain and inspire us.
It requires a whole lot of will power to not check you mobile phone at every beep and buzz. Who knows, it could be the latest piece of gossip from your friend, or breaking news in the world of mountain biking. To pass the time, we can breathe hours away scrolling through pages of people we deem worthy enough to follow. I don't know about you, but I follow (and stalk) many riders, brands and people who inspire me to ride my bike, and have a bloody good time doing it.
So I've rounded some up awesome MTB pages that I think you should be following on Instagram.
The World Record holder and World Cup Champion, Rachel Atherton has to be one of the accounts you should follow.
Not only is she killing it on the trails, but she posts a lot training photos, personal photos and ones of her adorable pooch, Caio.
Liv ambassador, pro mountain biker and coach, Lindsey Voreis sure knows how to have fun on the bike.
When she isn't racing, she's on the trails encouraging women to fight their fears and ride their bikes. This globe trotting biker fills her feed with reasons to ride your bike.
She's the queen of enduro. Heck, Tracy Moseley IS enduro.
The legendary British rider has inspired generations of female riders to get on two wheels, and fall in love with the world of mountain biking. Taking a step back from the EWS race scene, Tracy is spending her time travelling, coaching and enjoying married life.
US Olympic bronze medallist, Jill Kintner can usually be found on a bike somewhere.
She lives and breathes mountain biking. So her feed is full of awesome BMX, dirt and trail photos because this woman trains hard and rides hard for fun... and to win.
The 2014 World Cup downhill champion, Manon Carpenter posts a lot more than just racing bikes. Her feed is full of little insights to her personal life, and some fun behind-the-race -scenes moments too.
Recovering well from her crash at the World Championships, we're excited to see Manon back in action for 2017 - but who will she be riding for?
I do love this woman. Kayley "Quadzilla" Burdine is fit, fast and a hell of a lot of fun.
In the short space of a couple years, Kayley has gone from beginner to a cross-country winning machine. Her feed is littered with inspiring photos of riding, training and racing. If you feel like a puny human who wants to better themselves, then she's your girl to follow.
This young Scottish rider is Katy Winton. After joining Trek earlier this year, she's been storming the enduro trails of the EWS rounds.
If she doesn't inspire you to ride hard and have fun, then she'll definitely have you booking a trip to Scotland with her beautiful scenic photos.
She's risen up quickly through the downhill scene, and after signing with the Steve Peat Syndicate, Becci Skelton is a force to watch out for.
Her posts are fun, jaw-dropping and totally inspiring. Some of her training videos are incredible to watch, and aspire to.
Katy Curd is a 4X World Champion and Elite downhiller. She's travelled the globe, riding bikes and getting some serious air time.
This season has been a tough one for Katy after suffering a head injury that caused her to take time off the bike. But her insightful posts and messages on social media has helped raise awareness to the severity of concussions. We're stoked to see she's back on the bike though!
Casey Brown is one chick I wouldn't want to face on the trails. She's gnarly like no other, and one of the coolest women out there. She's not phased by how high the boys send it, she challenges them.
Riding for Trek, Casey is an all mountain, all terrain trail shredder who has fun and passion in everything she does.
Organised rides are held across the UK to help break down barriers stopping women from mountain biking.
Follow the HopeTech Women here, and join them for a ride.
Ok ok, Danny MacAskill isn't a female (that we know of), but you can't deny he's awesome to watch. His skills on the bike are like no other, and his insane videos are enough to inspire any man, woman and child.
His feed is full of adventure, fun and everything that we love about riding bikes... not to mention the occasional bike porn pic here and there!
This list is only a minuscule amount of the amazing women to ride and inspire. Share with us the women you follow, the ones who showcase how great mountain biking is, and the ones who make you hit those trails hard.
Don't forget Total Women's Cycling too! Follow our page and catch up with our behind-the-article antics.
