Cycling is a tough addiction to live with. One bike is never enough, and both their sentimental and financial value means you can't just leave them tied to the fence in the back yard. For many of us who don't have gardens, sheds or garages, we have no choice but to lovingly welcome our bikes into the home.

While we feel safe knowing our bikes are in the dry and warm if you have more than one and sometimes just the one, can take up quite a lot of valuable living space. There's a number of brilliantly space efficient storage solutions, some less permanent without having to drill into your walls, and some which offer anchoring and security in your home.

Struggling to find safe and secure storage solutions for his bike, Cycloc founder Andrew Lang, set out to develop a solution. Years of research and testing led to the first Cycloc product being launched in 2006. Since then the brand has gone from strength-to-strength and now stand as one of the market leaders for home bike storage solutions.

I decided to put the colourful and innovative wall mounted Cycloc Endo to the test with the intention of gaining my spare room back...

Cycloc Endo

Having lost my spare bedroom to cycling, I decided I really needed to sort things out. Along with some home renovations, I decided to make room for a 'wall of bikes' that would keep my steeds secure, out of the way and of course, on display for my own personal pleasure.

Cycloc offer three bike storage models; the solo, the endo and the hero all of which are available in a number of bright colours. Given the number of bikes I had to store, I decided it best to choose the Endo model as this would allow me to fit all five bikes on one wall.

Cycloc's Endo mount allows for vertical storage across your wall. It's made from 'robust Glass-reinforced Polypropylene with Protective Rubber Inserts', which feels quite strong in the hand and it certainly inspires confidence that it won't easily (if at all) snap or crack under the weight of your bike.

The Endo has a secure 4 point fixing at the top, with a wheel plate that can either be stuck or fixed to the wall. Fortunately, all fixings are included so all you need is a suitable wall and a drill, and maybe a responsible adult to use said drill.

Perhaps the most difficult part of the Cycloc procedure was working out spacing options that would provide enough space for road bikes and mountain bikes. It can get a little fiddly, so I would definitely recommend getting a friend to help you measure and work out your spacing measurements before any holes are drilled.

Once you pencilled your markings out for the fixtures, it's time to drill the Cycloc Endo's to the wall whilst following the instructions. When the top hangers are securely placed, pop your bike in the hook so you can effectively pencil where the bottom wheel touches the wall. With the wheel plate, you can choose to stick to the wall using an adhesive strip or fix to the wall with the fixtures included.

Et voila! The Endo's are in place and you can safely store your bikes vertically on the wall.

Once the bikes are hanging happily on the wall, you can increase their safety by using a bike lock through the top cavity which secures the wheel to the mount. With a long enough chain, you can even double up and connect multiple bikes.

Having had the Cycloc's walled and mounted for a few months now, I've been really impressed by how strong and useful they are. I love that I have the ability to lock the bicycles through the locks as well, this gives me a real piece of mind when I leave them in the house.

Another attractive feature of the Cycloc Endo's is how small and compact they can be when not in use. The main hanger component measures at 98 mm wide, 365 mm high and 32mm depth when flat.

Verdict

It's important to remember that Cycloc's Endo hangers are a storage solution and not a security device. Whilst you can use a bike lock to secure the bikes to the wall mounted hangers, as a unit, they aren't designed to protect your bike from theft.

Each Endo costs £40 which I think is very reasonable considering you get all fixtures and fittings included along with a wealth of helpful information on the Cycloc website. The mounted hangers feel strong, they've done an awesome job over the past few months and most importantly, they've given me my spare bedroom back!

Available in seven different colours, the Cycloc Endo can be purchased here for £40.
