Letting their Hair Down: Pro Cyclists Feeling Festive

Even the pros get a chance to enjoy a little festive fun...

Christmas time, mistletoe and… weelll, if you’re a pro cyclist (or doing the Rapha500) still rather a lot of bike riding!

Though half of the pros are out on pre-season training camps (or returning from one or preparing to go on one), that doesn’t mean they’re not excited about Christmas. It just means most of them are probably going to have a massive appetite when Christmas lunch arrives.

We’ve ransacked Twitter in search of the most festive pros (and a few very dedicated not-quite-pros) to bring you a little insight into how the cycling elite prepare for Christmas…

Christine Majerus and Boels-Dolmans

Boels-Dolmans have been out riding up sunny climbs, and showing off their new team kit. Whilst there, the ever thoughtful Majerus presented each of her teamies with a card and handmade santa. Aww!

Lizzie Deignan and Boels-Dolmans

Sticking with the orange team theme, Boels took their riders skiing in Austria before the real work began on camp. Awesome start to the new year for the World Tour topping squad!

CANYON//SRAM get decorative

The riders have been in Majorca, spending time riding together and announcing their newest member, recruited via the Zwift academy. Plenty of time for festive fun, though!

Chloe Hosking and dressed up racing pugs…

Hosking came across some rather festive entertainment in the form of racing pugs in Christmas outfits. Random.

Ottilie Quince

Cycling presenter, journalist and Transplant World Champion Otts put HUGE effort into her Christmas decorations!

Laura Kenny

Kenny’s dad’s Birthday is on December 18 – so she organised a special treat for him. Time for the whole family to enjoy a feast…

Rachel Atherton

Some people buy their tree from the local petrol station, DIY store or garden centre. Not Atherton… her tree hunting process is a bit more adventurous…

Kajsa Tylen

Tylen is chasing the year long cycle record, and encouraging others to make their own sweat pledges. She’s been posting videos throughout her attempt, but they’ve taken a festive turn of late. However, for her the greatest Christmas present has to be passing the jaw dropping 50,000km mark which she did on December 9.

Helen Wyman

The multiple cyclocross national champ has had a bit of a tough year so far, after a crash saw her hospital bound. She’s still recovering, but is back on the bike, and has been getting into the festive sprit in her new home…

Ciara Horne

We can’t pretend we’re not a little bit jealous of Team GB trackie Ciara Horne. This said, she’s putting the miles in pretty hard and probably deserves all the very best treats…
