Eroica Britannia Cycling Festival Returns for 2016

Looking for some vintage celebration in the UK? Look no further...

At TWC we’re big fans of the L’Eroica events – last year we went to Tuscany to drink in the full experience, and we loved every second. As stunning as the Italian views are, however, there’s just as much fun to be had at the Eroica Britannia which takes place this summer in Derbyshire.

A Victory for Vintage: Why I Loved Every Moment of L’Eroica 2015

Portrait Series: L’Eroica, a Vintage Affair in Tuscany

The three day celebration of vintage cycling kicks off on June 17 and will last until June 19, taking over the aptly named town of Bakewell. Winner of the 2015 ‘Best Non Music Festival’ title at the UK Festival Awards, this one is a must-visit for anyone who loves vintage lifestyle and bicycles.

The shining glory of the event is the chance to dust off your own vintage, pre-1987 steed to ride a 30, 55 or 100 mile adventure across the scenic Peak District, on Sunday June 19. In its second year in 2015, the ride attracted 3,500 participants, and for 2016 that number is expected to rise still further.

Riders travelling between villages of the Peak are guaranteed to enjoy the ultimate local showcase as villages put on huge spreads of local food and drink, turning their centres into mini festivals in their own right with music, entertainment, singing and dancing along the route.

For those looking for more leisurely entertainment, there will be plenty more: dedicated family rides, plus a ‘Vim and Vigour’ family area with ice creams and vintage fairground rides and craft tents to make sure little hands stay busy.

Adults might be more excited to hear about the ‘Swing Night’ dance off, hosted on the Friday 17, and the ‘Best in Show’ outfit-off competition on Saturday 18. If you’re after retail therapy, you’ll find over 250 vendors across acres of vintage stalls – including the World’s greatest Bike Jumble at The Purchasable Exhibition of Treasures.

Clearly, all that is going to work up your appetite but the onsite GRAZE food and drink festival will be there to keep everyone well fuelled throughout whilst live music and bands keep up the tempo.

Nick Cotton from Eroica Britannia has told us: “The Ride and the wonderful spectacle it brings to the area places Eroica Britannia in a unique position amongst other UK festivals.  Our riders, their friends and family give us a core festival audience in addition to the tens of thousands of festival go-ers that flock into the area for the festival. The International attraction that Eroica Britannia brings to the area gives the chance for a vibrant showcase of local brands, accommodation, businesses and of course the natural beauty of the Peak District.”

Three day tickets cost just £20, and kids go free, whilst the ride costs £60 or £45 fir concessions, find out more here.
