Danny MacAskill‘s latest film sees the Scot return to his Edinburgh roots and the bike shop where it all started – with the street trials star also proving he’s not a one trick pony with a trip into the Trossachs hills in Central Scotland with his mountain bike.
“It’s rad to be out on my mountain bike,” says MacAskill in the film. “I’ve not been out for a wee while because I’ve been injured so it’s good to get out and spin the legs and have fun.
“I love just going out and riding my mountain bike and it’s generally in group rides. On my trials bike I ride by myself most of the time so it’s nice to do something social.”
The film, which celebrates Danny MacAskill’s latest sponsorship deal with Lezyne, also sees the 26-year-old return to the workshop of MacDonalds Cycles to talk about his rise from a bike shop mechanic to YouTube superstar.
MacAskill was working at MacDonalds Cycles when he shot to fame in Dave Sowerby’s five-and-a-half-minute Inspired film, which has now had more than 29 million YouTube hits – and the shop has become a mecca for MacAskill’s fans.
“It’s amazing that folk turn up looking to have photographs taken outside the shop,” MacAskill told the Scotsman.” I’m glad I can repay Macdonald’s in some way for all the long lunches I used to take when I went cycling around the city.
“The video back in 2009 was shot with a load of mates during those lunchbreaks, I never thought it would prove as popular as it has. Edinburgh played a big role in my progression as a rider and I’m grateful that I can give something back, however small.”
