The long Autumn months are looming ahead and it can be easy to be down about the end of summer. But in fact there are tonnes of Autumn cycling events happening up and down the country that will get your heart pumping and bring a rosy glow to your cheeks.

Whether you love road cycling or mountain biking, you're looking for a challenging event or you want something the whole family can get involved in (or all of the above) there's bound to be something for you here.

Medip Madness Sportive (Road Cycling)
Organised by the Somer Valley Cycle Club, this sportive gives you the chance to explore the beautiful Mendip hills and Somerset levels, and hopefully get a bit of Autumn sunshine while you are out. The event has facilities for you to use, plus drinks and cake, and runs for a bargain £8!
There's a 100 mile route, and a shorter 50 mile route, both of which will take you through some beautiful countryside.

Cycletta Surrey (Road Cycling)
Cycletta are the leading women's only series of road cycling events in the UK. Known for their inclusive atmosphere, as well as a great route away from traffic, you can expect a supporter- and family-friendly event area with plenty of activities to keep everyone happy.
With distances of 60km, 40km and 20km, there really is something for everyone - an achievable challenge! The Cycletta Surrey event takes place in grounds of the stunning Loseley Park, and all entrants get use of the relaxing Unlisted Recovery Zone to relax and recuperate after the event. Oh, and a goody bag too!

Red Bull Fox Hunt with Rachel Atherton (Mountain Bike)
Fancy a weekend with a difference? Head up to the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh for a weekend of fun and bikes with a festival vibe. Pitch your tent and enjoy a BBQ around the campfire with the World Champion Downhill Mountain Biker, and plenty of other like-minded women.
On the Sunday, it's the Fox Hunt itself - find out more about what's involved in that in our Red Bull Fox Hunt article - and it's going to be an exciting event! All participants also get a goody bag and a special Red Bull Fox Hunt jersey to wear, and all for the bargain entry price of £5, which goes to charity!

Wiggle New Forest 100 (Road Cycling)
Autumn in the New Forest is glorious, and riding through the golden hued woodland on a crisp day past ponies and villages is an experience that's hard to beat. Sign up for the full 100 miles, the 81 mile mid-distance, or the 54 mile option.
Part of the highly successful Super Series organised by online bike shop Wiggle, you can expect the works. Full mechanical support, bike wash, electronic timing, free energy drinks and snacks, broom wagon, the works! Finish up with a hearty Hog Roast and some live music, and you've got yourself a great Autumn cycling experience.

Sustrans 100 Mile Smile Ride (Suitable for all)
This event has already won us over with its cheery name! The 100 Mile Smile Ride is in fact a 106 mile route through Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire along quiet roads and scenic cycle routes.
Organised by Sustrans, the sustainable transport charity which runs the National Cycle Network of cycle paths, you can do as much or as little as you want, and join it at any point.
If you do want to ride in a group, there'll be a meeting point at 8.30 near Dunstable, with a Dr Bike to sort out any last-minute bike niggles!

Evans Cycles One for the Girls Biggin Hill Weekend (Road Cycling and Mountain Biking)
Love mountain biking, more of a road cyclist, or do you love them both? If you want a crazy weekend you can do mountain biking on Saturday and a sportive on the Sunday with the Evans Cycles Ride It! events at Biggin Hill.
The events are fully supported and you can expect mechanic support, a broom wagon, a way-marked route and waterproof maps, feed stations and even the chance to test ride some Garmin GPS products.
Evans Cycles have also set up One for the Girls groups for the short and medium routes on both days. These women only groups, led by Evans Cycles female ride leaders, are the perfect introduction to the Ride It events.

Sky Ride Liverpool (Suitable for everyone!)
Enjoy the sights and sounds of Liverpool by bike, without having to worry about traffic. Sky Ride Liverpool gives you the chance to ride on a traffic free route around the centre of the city, and it's the perfect outing for the whole family, plus you can see the professional cyclists set of on the iconic Tour of Britain race.
Davina McCall and Team GB cyclist Jess Varnis will be there, and there's plenty to keep you busy as you ride around part of the Liverpool stage of the Tour of Britain. Expect bike cafes, events, activities and the new 'tricks and tunes' area.
No bike? No problem! Not only will there be free bikes to use at Sefton Park (first come, first served) but if you miss out on those grab one from the Liverpool cycle hire scheme and head on out.

Cyclo-Cross Irvine Beach (Cyclo-Cross)
It's wet, muddy and incredibly friendly - cyclo-cross (CX) is one of the most fun and accessible racing formats. Perfect for getting out on the bike in the winter, you'll meet a ton of great people, have a laugh and get a fitness boost. What's not to love!
Head to Irvine Beach in Ayrshire, Scotland, for this CX race that's bound to get your blood pumping.
