It’s time to banish shop bought energy gels and bars and get stuck in the kitchen making your own. Natural energy gels are super easy to make, don’t require a large amount of ingredients and settle much better in your body.
Coffee and mint are two flavours that go really together, but we weren’t too sure how this one would turn out because of how strong the taste of coffee is. To our surprise, it tasted lovely, as the mint works its wonders in softening the bitter coffee flavour and leaves a refreshing taste in your mouth!
To store your home-made natural energy gels, you can use freezer bags or buy your own reusable squeeze tubes.
- 6 pitted dates (always better to buy more in case the mixture gets too runny)
- 1 tbsp of coconut oil (unrefined)
- 1 tbsp of honey
- 1 tsp of ground coffee
- 1 tbsp of cocoa powder
- 1 tsp of chopped fresh mint leaves or peppermint essence
Place all the ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth.
You can keep adding more water and coconut oil if the mixture gets too thick and more dates if the mixture becomes too runny.
Finish by transferring the natural energy gel into a freezer bag or squeeze tube and pop into the fridge or freezer until needed.
