Review: Tubus Logo Rear Rack

Have Tubus won us over?

Whether you want to explore the outer regions of Nepal, pop a picnic basket on the back in the summer, or simply stash a change of clothes in a pannier bag for the commute, add a rack to any bike and you’re adding versatility.

Tubus are a well-known name in the bike rack game, with a reputation for building, solid, robust racks for every kind of bicycle, so you can be certain there’ll be something to fit your shopper, your touring machine and everything in between, no matter the wheel size.

All clean, unfussy lines, the Tubus Logo Classic is a smart looking powdercoated rack that comes in my favourite colour; black.

Straight out of the box, the rack is extremely straight forward to put together, and once assembled, attaching to your bike takes a matter of minutes; you simply attach using four screws and a couple of rubber washers.

Two metal bars at the front of the rack slide fore and aft, allowing you to adjust the horizontal line of the rack and ensure it’s perfectly flat. These arms are secured at the desired length using two screws, and unfortunately, the first time I ventured out with fully loaded panniers these screws weren’t tight enough and the rack jostled around a little. But lesson learnt, this didn’t happen again.

The Logo Classic rack allows you to mount your panniers slightly further back than some others, which allows plenty of heel clearance so that you don’t kick your bags with every turn of the pedals.

The mounting tubes are also set down below the line of the centre horizontal part of the rack , which gives you a lower centre of gravity and therefore more stability. It also allows you to make full use of the flat top of the rack as the panniers aren’t in the way – I found it useful to bungee my tent on top rather than have it in my pannier.

Granted, this isn’t the cheapest rack, in fact it’s at the upper end of the scale in terms of prices, but the peace of mind that you get with a Tubus rack and their ten year guarantee means that this is worth the investment.
