Endura

The Edinburgh-based cycle clothing specialist Endura Ltd was founded in 1992, by Jim McFarlane. Jim, who had long been a keen cyclist, spent 14 months living in Australia and while he was there, he began to take part in the cycle section of team triathlon events. It was around one of these events that all of his gear was stolen. Forced into replacing his kit, Jim trawled the local sports retailers, only to wind up disappointed with what was on offer. When he eventually returned to home soil he set about establishing a company to produce cycle wear that was both functional, hard wearing and did not compromise on the quality of materials.

Once they had started to manufacture their own clothing, rather than source materials from local garment factories, Endura very quickly became extremely popular amongst the UK’s mountain bikers. This was thanks largely to their MT500 range, the launch of which coincided with a huge boom in the popularity of mountain biking. Endura now produces a range of clothing and accessories for use by road cyclists and commuters, as well as their core MTB customerbase. Their products are well regarded and now sold in Europe, the USA, South Africa and the USA. Endura won the Eurobike design award for clothing in 2007 and 2009.

Endura’s commitment to high-performance can be seen in their sponsorship of various events around the world, including France’s Roc D’Azur and the Endura MTB series in New Zealand, as well as the Endura Racing Team and Endura MTB Racing. They are also kit suppliers to the Scottish national cycling team.
